About Us

Family-founded, built on three decades of care

Since October 1989, The Berhe Group has provided compassionate, therapeutic residential care for at-risk boys and young men across California.

Our Story

A legacy of compassion

Founded by Judy Berhe and the late Berhe Asfaha in October 1989, The Berhe Group has a rich history of providing compassionate care and support to emotionally troubled male youth and non-minor dependents.

Drawing from their diverse backgrounds and a shared passion for helping others, Judy and Berhe worked tirelessly to establish a non-profit organization that would make a lasting difference in the lives of those it served.

In its early years, The Berhe Group focused on creating a strong foundation for its programs, forming strategic partnerships with local schools, mental health professionals, and community organizations. Through these collaborations, the organization was able to offer a wide range of services, including therapeutic counseling, academic support, and life skills training.

Over the years, The Berhe Group has expanded its reach and impact, growing to 65 employees across five licensed clinics serving boys and young men ages 10–19 in San Bernardino, Riverside, and Los Angeles Counties. The organization has evolved its services to address the changing needs of its residents, incorporating trauma-informed care and culturally competent practices.

Today, The Berhe Group remains committed to the values and principles established by its founders more than three decades ago. By constantly seeking innovative ways to support the personal growth and family functioning of its residents, The Berhe Group continues to build on its rich legacy, making a meaningful difference in the lives of countless young men and their families.
